Karl Hand is a skilled and enthusiastic drummer from the North West of England. He started playing drums at the age of 11, and took lessons with a local tutor. After finishing school he attended Mid Cheshire College and obtained a National Diploma in Music Practice. After leaving college he joined a successful tribute band gigging all over the UK and Europe, gaining and developing valuable skills along the way. During this time he also held down two drum-teaching positions at local schools and taught privately.
He then moved to London where he completed a Higher Diploma in drums at The Institute Of Contemporary Music Performance and then progressed onto their music performance degree, completing the first two years.
Whilst at The Institute Of Contemporary Music Performance, he received high level drum tuition from some of the best and highly regarded drummers in the country, all playing an integral part in developing his playing and equipping him with the tools and professional attitude required to succeed in todays ever changing industry.
Deciding to move back to the North West he finished his music degree at Salford University, during his time here he took lessons with renowned drummer and educator Dave Hassell.
Within weeks of moving back home he was in the studio recording Warrington based singer/ songwriter Dan Solan’s debut album “Hands On Another”, at AStar Studios owned by Mercury Prize nominated producer Andy Ross.
He also held the drum chair for Manchester based soul/ funk band René. During his two year stint with the band he recorded their “One More Day” EP, played gigs all over the UK with many festival performances.
In 2013 he joined the 10-piece soul and Motown covers band Soul Devotion. Playing corporate events, weddings and private parties all across the North West.
And for the past year he has been a member of Manchester’s finest up and coming band Last Race Home, playing many notable gigs across Manchester, a successful tour of London and the highly anticipated release of their first EP.
